Commercial Waste and Recycling Franchise

hp-commercial-servicesThe City of Highland Park selected Lakeshore Recycling Systems as its exclusive waste and recycling hauler for all residential, commercial and multi-family properties; a contract which began on January 1, 2016. This franchise agreement covers waste, recycling and organic services.

Lakeshore Recycling Systems is proud to service Highland Park businesses. We believe in finding innovative solutions that will create a better customer experience and protect the environment. Lakeshore Recycling Systems and Highland Park are one of the first partnerships in the Midwest to start an organics program with businesses.

Lakeshore Recycling Systems provides an organics service (food scrap/landscape) option that is charged per pickup. This program allows businesses to use 65-gallon, 95-gallon, 1 yard or 1.5 yard containers.

Single-Stream Recycling

Having opened Chicagoland’s state-of-the-art single-stream recycling center in 2016, Lakeshore Recycling Systems focuses on waste diversion to recycle more and send less waste to landfills. Lakeshore Recycling Systems vows not to own or operate a landfill and is committed to making the surrounding communities a greener place to live.

Lakeshore Recycling Systems has a single-stream recycling center dedicated to sorting and separating recyclables. This 40,000 square-foot facility is designed to handle more than 110,000 tons of high-grade residential and commercial single-stream recyclables, sorting, separating and allocating over 20 tons of waste per hour.

  • Recyclable plastic items are #1 – #7 except #6.
  • Recycling materials should be loose and not bagged. If you must use a bag, it needs to be transparent. Black bags will be considered contaminated.
  • Containers that have previously stored liquid or food should be emptied. Food and liquid containers do not have to be rinsed unless it was previously filled with a heavy substance. Examples of heavy substance products include tomato paste, peanut butter and vegetable oil.
  • Lids and caps from plastic bottles and glass jars is preferred to remain intact prior to recycling.
  • To limit the amount of space used, break down any cardboard boxes into pieces.
  • The following items are NOT recyclable although they are made from paper, plastic and cardboard:
    • Pizza boxes
    • Styrofoam
    • Paper plates
    • Plastic cups (i.e. Solo cups)
    • Paper towels
    • Grocery bags
