VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD WASTE, RECYCLING & YARD WASTE COLLECTION PROGRAM

LRS began serving as the village’s official residential hauler for waste, recycling and organics on April 1, 2021,  We are excited to provide Deerfield residents with Chicagoland’s best and most reliable hauling services.

We know that Deerfield residents have high standards when it comes to their weekly waste and recycling service.  Our drivers, customer service and dispatchers are excited to get started.

With one of Chicagoland’s first 12-month food waste and organics programs, each resident receives one 35-gallon food waste/organics cart to complement their waste and recycling carts. This makes Deerfield one of the area’s most proactive communities when it comes to reducing the large amounts of food waste that end up in landfills, and the greenhouse gases that material produces.

Deerfield Residential Waste & Recycling

Cart Service

LRS Trash Can Sizes

Each single-family home has the option to receive  a 35, 65 or 95-gallon trash and recycling cart. All food waste/organics carts will be 35-gallon in size.

Your waste, recycling and food waste/organics will be collected on the same day, year-round in separate trucks.  We strongly advise that your carts are out for service between 7PM the night before service, and 6AM the day of service.  Collection will start no earlier than 7AM, and end by 6PM each service day.

Garbage is collected Monday through Wednesday in the Village of Deerfield. If you are unsure of your service day, please contact customer service. Service times are subject to change.

Garbage collection is unlimited. Residents may use a non-LRS cart or container for waste or recycling materials that do not fit into the LRS issued cart so long as it does not exceed 35 gallons, 50 lbs. and has two handles. You are to use the LRS issued cart first. Loose bags can be placed out however they must not exceed 30 gallons and 50lbs per bag.

Please note: garbage mixed with yard waste, leaves or organic material will not be collected, as this material is not permitted in State of Illinois Landfills.

LRS provides waste carts in three different sizes to residents. If you would like to inquire about changing cart sizes, please email Service@LRSRecycles.com or call 844.NEED.LRS and any of our service representatives would be happy to assist (fees may apply).

Residents may request an additional garbage cart for a monthly fee. Please contact LRS to do so.

LRS provides one cart for recycling at no charge for each household. Carts are available in 35, 65 and 95-gallon. Additional carts are available upon request. Contact LRS Customer Service for more information or with questions on recycling.

  • Recyclables are collected on the same day of the week as the garbage and yard waste
  • You are to use the LRS issued cart first for recycled materials
  • Please MARK the additional box or container used as RECYCLE so the driver can clearly see it
  • Plastic bags with recycling material cannot be accepted
  • There is no limit to the amount of acceptable recycled items that can be placed out for collection
  • LRS suggests using a cardboard box as a makeshift bin and placing all broken down materials inside

Residents will be able to set out unlimited amounts of stickered brown kraft bags filled with grass clippings.  Bundled twigs, branches and sticks will also be taken as long as they do not exceed 4’ in length and 18” in diameter.  Stickers may be purchased at the same retailers where they are currently purchased.

What is considered yard waste?

Yard waste, also known as landscape waste, consists of organic waste materials accumulated as the result of cultivation and maintenance of gardens, lawns, shrubbery, trees and vines.

Guidelines

  • Residents are to use the 35-Gallon LRS yard waste cart first
  • Metal/plastic containers MARKED YW or YARD WASTE with 2 handles not exceeding 50 LBS/ 32 gallons
  • Biodegradable paper landscape & yard waste bags, not to exceed 50 LBS or 35-gallon capacity
  • LRS carts may be used for yard waste with subscription services

Christmas Trees

Until January 25th, we will begin to gladly collect your non-artificial Christmas trees as organic material – free of any tinsel, ornaments or lights.  Trees can be left loose (never in bags) in the area where you have regular service for trash and recycling.  Due to snow and ice, trees may not always be picked up on your service day as our drivers and trucks will be in the village all month for pickups.

The village of Deerfield and LRS are extremely pleased to offer Deerfield residents the ability to put out food waste/organics for curbside collection, weekly, year-round. Food waste accounts for nearly 20% of all material that ends up in landfills. Through this program, Deerfield residents will be able to do their part to offset this amount of material, which will help lessen greenhouse gas effects.

What if I need my cart replaced?

Carts that are broken due to damage incurred during the collection are reported by the driver for replacement at no charge. Residents are encouraged to contact LRS if they notice damage to the cart during the collection process to request a replacement cart.

If damage occurs to the cart due to other reasons, please contact LRS to request a replacement cart.

Is this considered garbage?

Latex paint

Latex paint is considered regular garbage, but it must be completely dried, with the lid off so the driver is able to see inside the can. Dry latex paint by leaving lid off or open and/or mix kitty litter until the paint is completely absorbed. Do not place out for collection until the paint is completely dry.
