Lakeshore Recycling Systems is Illinois’ largest privately-held waste hauler and specializes in recycling and waste diversion programs, affordable roll-off container services, portable restroom rentals, mulch distribution, street sweeping, on-site storage options and full-service waste removal solutions for businesses and residential homeowners. One way of ensuring this is by not owning or operating a landfill. Traditionally, other waste haulers’ profit is made by operating landfills, rather than increasing their diversion practices to recycle the most amount of material. LRS diverts as much waste as possible away from these landfills in order to be both sustainable and profitable. In March 2016, Lakeshore opened our first single-stream recycling facility which allows us to divert over 40% of municipal solid waste and give a new life to items like glass, cardboard, paper and plastic that would have otherwise been taken to a landfill.

In June 2018, Lakeshore was recognized as the Overall Safety Award winner as well as the Biggest Safety Improvement Award recipient in the Technical Division of Communication, Education and Marketing from the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) for our Live Safety initiative. 9. Transparency with Marketing and Communication
Complete transparency with our customers and growing community is extremely important to Lakeshore. The waste and recycling industry is a field that many do not fully understand. This is why Lakeshore strives to educate others outside of the industry on the different aspects of the field. Lakeshore is the only local hauler with a dedicated marketing department that is focused on educating others on our company and the industry as a whole.
Social media, our easy-to-navigate website and other marketing materials are used to teach others about the industry. In April 2018, our Facebook page and our blog, Trash Talk, was awarded the Hermes Creative Award for the information that we post. All marketing and communication is done locally in-house to provide an expedient, knowledgeable avenue of communication for both prospective and current customers. Lakeshore provides and participates in many events, like tradeshows, throughout Chicagoland to help educate others on our complex industry, from what is considered a recyclable item, to how our sorting process works.
