Experience the Lakeshore Difference

Lakeshore Recycling Systems is Illinois’ largest privately-held waste hauler and specializes in recycling and waste diversion programs, affordable roll-off container services, portable restroom rentals, mulch distribution, street sweeping, on-site storage options and full-service waste removal solutions for businesses and residential homeowners. Lakeshore guides the way as the industry leader, with over 800 employees and nearly 10 Midwest owned and operated facilities. There are many aspects of Lakeshore that sets us apart from others within the industry.

1. Sustainability at the Core of Our Business

Sustainability has been part of our foundation since we began nearly 20 years ago. This environmental mindset is what truly makes us standout from the other waste haulers both large and small. Lakeshore is completely committed to providing environmentally-responsible waste and recycling solutions to our growing customer base.

One way of ensuring this is by not owning or operating a landfill. Traditionally, other waste haulers’ profit is made by operating landfills, rather than increasing their diversion practices to recycle the most amount of material. LRS diverts as much waste as possible away from these landfills in order to be both sustainable and profitable. In March 2016, Lakeshore opened our first single-stream recycling facility which allows us to divert over 40% of municipal solid waste and give a new life to items like glass, cardboard, paper and plastic that would have otherwise been taken to a landfill.

2. Award-Winning Service

Nationally and locally recognized with over 40 unique distinctions, Lakeshore is a company that excels in setting a high standard of excellence within the industry. Some of the awards that Lakeshore has been recognized for includes: 2017 Illinois Sustainability Award, the 2018 Daily Herald Business Ledger Award for Business Excellence (AABE) in the category of Innovation in Business, the Chicago Public Schools’ Best Partnership Award, ranked #35 on the latest Waste360’s Top 100 Waste and Recycling Companies in North America and the 2016 multi-Stevie award winning company with honors including Company of the Year, Customer Service Department of the Year and Fastest Growing Company of the Year.

These key wins are in dedication to our continued promise of providing an exceptional customer experience for our community, whether for a customer that has been with us since the beginning or those new to the Lakeshore family.

3. Local and Community Focused

With over 10 facilities and headquartered in Morton Grove, Illinois, just a short 30-minute drive to downtown Chicago, Lakeshore is dedicated to our local communities throughout Northern Illinois. Lakeshore is committed to giving back to the community, from raising money and awareness to benefit Make-A-Wish Illinois, Special Olympics Illinois, Lupus Society of Illinois and many more.

Lakeshore also participates annually in the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day parade and various other Chicagoland holiday parades. Community involvement is part of who we are, as our communities impact all Lakeshore employees. This dedication to improve Illinois communities is close to our hearts, as all 800 employees live and work in the area.

4. Safety at Our Foundation

The waste field is the fifth deadliest industry in the country. As a result, Lakeshore is dedicated to educating not only our employees on the importance of a strong safety culture but also instilling this message into families, communities serviced and the general public. Safety is a core value for Lakeshore, which is why the #LiveSafety principle was created. This philosophy encourages each individual to keep safety as a forefront mission within each of their actions.

In June 2018, Lakeshore was recognized as the Overall Safety Award winner as well as the Biggest Safety Improvement Award recipient in the Technical Division of Communication, Education and Marketing from the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) for our Live Safety initiative. We were the only waste hauler recognized in North America for this growing safety initiative. Safety is a crucial aspect of everyone’s life, which is why it is a core foundational value to Lakeshore.

5. Work Culture as the Backbone of Our Organization

Recognized annually since 2015 as one of the Best and Brightest Places to Work for® nationally and in Chicago, Lakeshore values our employees and their experiences with our company.  An essential aspect of what makes our company standout is ensuring that our employees are happy, safe and cared for throughout the business, whether back office staff, drivers or line workers. From several employee events to larger, all employee company outings—at Lakeshore, we are not just coworkers but a close family.

6. Dedicated Customer Experience

A fundamental part of Lakeshore’s mission is delivering exceptional service for all customers. As a result, we have multiple, local customer service teams and 800 employees as the face of Lakeshore to assist customers. Lakeshore is truly committed to ensuring our customers are satisfied and that they receive the high-quality experience they expect from a highly-ranked service provider. With an A+ rating on Better Business Bureau, Lakeshore is relentlessly dedicated to providing the best service to all of our customers.

7. Innovation

From opening our first single-stream recycling center in March 2016, to adding Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology into customer containers in selected communities and to introducing the first privately-held aerobic digester in the nation for converting organic waste into high-grade fertilizer; the use of ground-breaking technology is a core aspect of Lakeshore’s identity. Our innovative and state-of-the-art technologies help improve service delivery accuracy, operational safety and the quality of service our customers receive.

8. Industry Leader

As one of the companies recognized as Crain’s largest privately-held companies, for two years, Lakeshore sets industry standards especially when it comes to sustainability. From diverting over 80% of construction and demolition debris to controlling over 32% of the Chicagoland footprint, Lakeshore continuously works to serve the Midwest as the top sustainable waste and recycling hauler.

9. Transparency with Marketing and Communication

Complete transparency with our customers and growing community is extremely important to Lakeshore. The waste and recycling industry is a field that many do not fully understand. This is why Lakeshore strives to educate others outside of the industry on the different aspects of the field. Lakeshore is the only local hauler with a dedicated marketing department that is focused on educating others on our company and the industry as a whole.

Social media, our easy-to-navigate website and other marketing materials are used to teach others about the industry. In April 2018, our Facebook page and our blog, Trash Talk, was awarded the Hermes Creative Award for the information that we post. All marketing and communication is done locally in-house to provide an expedient, knowledgeable avenue of communication for both prospective and current customers. Lakeshore provides and participates in many events, like tradeshows, throughout Chicagoland to help educate others on our complex industry, from what is considered a recyclable item, to how our sorting process works.

10. All Encompassing Waste and Recycling Services

Our comprehensive waste and recycling solutions expands beyond just hauling customers’ waste and recycling. Lakeshore also provides temporary services such as: portable restroom rentals, roll-off dumpster rentals, street sweeping, mulch and on-site storage options as part of our Temporary Services Division. From events to home construction, Lakeshore has you covered for any of your waste needs.
