03 Nov Lakeshore Celebrates America Recycles Day
America Recycles Day is November 15, and as that date nears, each person in our community has a wonderful opportunity to evaluate how they are making a positive environmental impact.
America Recycles Day is an initiative of Keep America Beautiful to engage with individuals to protect the environment and create a more sustainable place to live.
Close to 90% of materials we throw away could potentially be reclaimed by means of recycling, repurposing or composting. That means that 90% of some sort of reusable material ends up in landfills, which are the largest source of human caused methane.
Recycling, however, does more than just limit landfill usage. This practice saves energy and money, creates jobs and prevents pollution. By recycling, you are making a lasting impact on this environment for the better.
Spread the word
America Recycles Day is the perfect opportunity to reflect on your own recycling habits and see how you can make a difference, as well as celebrate the impact you may have already created.
This America Recycles Day, join Lakeshore in spreading recycling awareness. Stand up for the environment by sharing stories of what we have achieved to make an environmental difference.
The LRS challenge
Through November 15, share on any of Lakeshore’s social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn) with our hashtag #BeyondWaste how you have made a positive impact on the environment in Chicagoland. After November 15, a panel of judges will choose their favorite story and feature it in the winter issue of REgenerate, our quarterly newsletter.
