New Year, New Recycling Resolutions

New Year, New Recycling Resolutions

It is the new year, which means time to start fresh and create a new year resolution. This year, instead of vowing to go to the gym more frequently or sticking to your budget, choose a resolution that is environmentally friendly. Below are a few tips from Lakeshore Recycling Systems on how to follow through with your 2018 resolution to be more sustainable:

  1. Go paperless

Using less paper or no paper at all can minimize the amount trees that are cut down and positively affect the earth. Lakeshore offers our customers paperless invoicing and electronic billing options, which does not create unnecessary paper waste.

  1. Start composting

Composting is a great way to convert waste, like food scraps or landscape waste, into high-grade fertilizer that is used to help plants grow and flourish. Lakeshore also has a curbside organics program that collects organic waste and transforms it into compost.

  1. Save energy

Taking steps to save energy by turning of electronics and appliances when they are not in use can not only save you money but can also help the environment.

  1. Reduce

Reducing the amount of waste you create means that less waste will go to landfills and pollute the earth. Lakeshore does not own a landfill and tries to find environmentally responsible solutions for the waste that is collected.

  1. Reuse

Finding ways to repurpose something and giving it a new life is an easy way to preserve the environment. For example, instead of throwing out old clothes or old electronics try donating them to others in need of it so that they find a new purpose and not end up in a landfill.

  1. Recycle

There are many things items that can be recycled but are not. Ensuring that you are recycling as much as possible and correctly really makes a difference. Researching how to recycle properly can help make recycling easier and more effective.

Making a commitment to living a greener lifestyle can be easy and can help the earth in a big way. Utilizing some of Lakeshore’s services like paperless invoicing and our curbside organics program can be a great start to your environmentally friendly New Year’s resolution.
