Using Porta Potties at a Wedding: 4 Key Tips

Are you arranging an outdoor wedding? If so, you’re going to need restroom facilities of some kind on the premises. Odds are, these facilities will need to be porta potties.

However, maybe you’re a little hesitant to use porta potties at your Aurora, Illinois wedding? Perhaps you’re worried that they’ll negatively affect its aesthetic, and that they’ll fail to meet the needs of your guests?

While these concerns are valid, they can be addressed. Here are 4 key tips to consider when using porta potties at a wedding.

1. Determine Your Porta Potty Needs

The most important thing to do when using porta potties at a wedding is to figure out how many porta potties will be needed. Renting out too few porta potties could result in long lines for the restroom, creating an unpleasant experience for everyone.

If you’re hosting a wedding without alcohol, and are planning on holding a 4-hour long reception, it’s recommended that you have at least 1 porta potty for every 40 people.

If, on the other hand, you’re hosting a 4-hour wedding reception with alcohol, you should have 2 or more porta potties for every 40 people. For example, if you have 200 people attending, you should have 10 or more porta potties on the premises.

By using this formula, you can be sure that the waiting lines will be reasonable and your porta potties will stay clean and sanitary throughout the entire celebration.

2. Consider All Available Options

In the past, we were limited in terms of what we could expect to get with porta potties. Small, plastic, rudimentary containers were the only types of porta potties available, giving us no choice when it came to overall quality and functionality.

These days, however, there are a number of different types of porta potties available. While you could go with the simple, standard, rudimentary models, you could also go with ADA compliant models, deluxe models and executive/luxury trailer models.

Each type of porta potty has different characteristics, with executive/luxury models providing the most in terms of amenities. If you want to make your outdoor wedding as fancy and as high-end as possible, executive models might be the best option. These porta potties are equipped with heating, air conditioning, sinks, vinyl flooring and lights.

3. Improve Their Aesthetic

In and of themselves, porta potties aren’t much to look at. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. There is a lot you can do to improve the aesthetic of your porta potties, providing them with an inviting presentation for the big day.

Everything from plants, to lights, to photographs, to tapestries can be placed inside your executive/luxury porta potties, giving them a look that is inviting, sophisticated and pleasant. You might also consider placing them under their own tent, separating them from the rest of the celebration.

4. Place Them Strategically

When it comes to porta potties at weddings, placement is everything. While you don’t want them to be too close to the proceedings, you don’t want them to be too far away from the proceedings either.

We recommend placing them between 75 and 150 feet away from your main wedding tent. This will keep them out of the line of sight, but will also make them easily accessible to all guests.
