Village of Island Lake pick-up Schedule

    Solid Waste & Recycling

  • All solid waste materials must be placed at the curb for collection by 7:00 a.m. the day of our scheduled collection. We cannot guarantee a specific time the driver will be at your home
  • Trash and recycling should be placed by the drive

Subscription Rates

  • Single Family (detached) $21.33 per month or $63.99 per quarter
  • Town Homes (10% discount) $19.20 per month or $57.60 per quarter
  • Senior Discount (65 or older, 20% discount) $17.06 per month or $51.18 per quarter
  • Landscape Toter (monthly charged) $5
  • Additional 95-gallon recycling toter (monthly charged) $5
  • Food organics recycling included in your yard waste program
  • Once per year E waste pick up included in your yard waste program

  • NO used paper plates or pizza boxes, or fluorescent paper (they contaminate the paper stream with food, dye, or plastic coating) If the pizza box top is clean you can tear it off and recycle it.
  • NO paper towels, tissues, or napkins, which are not recyclable because the fibers are too small to reuse (please compost them with kitchen food scraps if possible)
  • NO Shredded Paper – Loose shredded paper causes major sorting problems in the Recycling Facilities
  • NO frozen food boxes, which are made of a hybrid of paper and plastic, and are not wanted by paper mills
  • NO paper cups, which are also made of a hybrid of paper and plastic rendering them unrecyclable

Island Lake Yard Waste Collection

Yard waste (also known as landscape waste) season is April 1st through November 30th, every year. Pick-up will be weekly, same day as trash day.

  • Up to 15 bags of yard waste per week is included in single family home service (no sticker required). Townhomes will require stickers Grass clippings, leaves, tree branches, and brush is collected
  • Must be placed in biodegradable Kraft paper bags or a can for landscape waste
  • DO NOT place yard waste in plastic bags
  • Yard waste stickers can be purchased at Island Food

Brush & Tree Trimmings

  • Bundled brush is included. Must be bundled and tied with biodegradable twine or string (no metal) in distinct piles that are no longer than 4 ft. in length, 2 ft. in diameter and weighing no more than 50 lbs. with no individual branch being greater than 2” in diameter.

Bulk Items

  • A weekly bulk item is included in this service, 50lbs and under, no construction debris
  • For special bulk item pick-up please contact LRS to schedule pick-up and arrange for payment.

Unacceptable Bulk Items

These bulk items left at the curb will not be picked up in regular service but can be picked up for a fee.

  • Items longer than 4 feet in length
  • Items weighing more than 50 pounds
  • Yard Waste
  • Tires • Household refuse
  • Rocks, concrete and construction materials including roofing materials and lumber
  • Large appliances such as freezers, refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, dryers, etc. even if broken up, cut up, crushed, or flattened
  • Any items that could be recycled as noted previously
  • Any type of metal post, pipe, swing set, antenna, etc.
  • King and Queen mattresses
  • Electronic waste, or e-waste such as computer equipment, televisions, etc.

Holiday Schedule

LRS observes six major holidays and does not provide service on these holidays:

If the holiday falls on a weekday prior to your regular collection day, service will be the following day. Services will take place on Saturday during holiday weeks. Items still need to be placed out at 6AM on Saturday to ensure collection.

Billing & Invoice Options

Invoices are sent in advance on a quarterly basis for services. Payments are due 30 days from the date of the invoice. Late fees will apply for payments received late. As nearly all costs associated with providing the service increase on a regular basis, rates are increased on an annual basis every July.

Auto Payment Option

  • LRS offers an auto-pay option for residents who choose to establish this method of payment. Once you receive an invoice from LRS, you may choose this option. If you would like to elect for auto pay, you may do so by going to You will be asked to create a username and password.
