McHenry County has elected to franchise certain areas of unincorporated McHenry County. The County initiated this process to help lower waste collection costs and provide additional services to its residents. Lakes Disposal, an LRS company, has been selected as the exclusive hauler to provide residential Refuse, Recycle and Landscape waste collection for the residents of The Manor Subdivision in Crystal Lake, and Fox Lake Vista in Spring Grove in unincorporated McHenry County. Our comprehensive solid waste program is designed to encourage recycling and waste reduction, reduce litter in the neighborhoods and ensure that waste is disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.
LRS offers many other services for unincorporated McHenry County residents including organic food scrap compost service, electronic waste drop-off locations, leaf collection, portable restrooms, and large open top construction style containers. We are proud to be a partner in your community!

Landscape waste is collected seasonally beginning on April 1st through the 2nd full week of December on the same day as refuse and recyclables. LRS also allows for organic food scraps to be mixed into landscape waste during the season as well.
Yard-waste, also known as yard waste, consists of organic waste materials accumulated as the result of cultivation and maintenance of gardens, lawns, shrubbery, trees and vines.
Yard waste is garden trimmings, branches and brush under two feet in diameter, leaves, flowers, tree droppings (crabapples and pinecones), garden plants, vines, weeds and grass clippings and yard trimmings.
Bread, cereal, coffee grounds, dairy, eggshells, eggs, fruits, grain, pasta, shells, vegetables.
Bones, diapers, fats, glass, grease, liquids, meat, metal, oil, packaging, paper plates, pet waste, plastic, poultry, seafood, service ware, shells, and Styrofoam.
Yard waste must be placed in biodegradable Kraft bags or plastic cans no larger than 35 gallons in size. Each yard waste bag, can or bundle should not exceed 50 lbs. Tree limbs, branches or brush must be bundled with twine, and may not exceed 4 feet in length and 2 feet in diameter, with individual branches not exceeding 3 inches in diameter.
If you use cans for your landscape waste instead of Kraft bags, please clearly mark (paint) the cans containing landscape waste. You can either label the can with a large “X” or “Landscape Waste”. This will help identify the landscape waste to the drivers, so your pickup is not inadvertently missed. Yard waste in plastic bags will not be collected.
Loose leaf collection will occur three times annually, once during the spring, October, and November. Leaves must be at the curb by 6AM on Monday.
LRS will provide a special collection of Christmas trees for the first two weeks after Christmas.
“Bulk Items” are items that are too large to fit into a cart or can. LRS will collect one bulk item per week at no charge. If a bulk item is deemed hazardous or unacceptable for landfills, that item will not be taken.
Examples of a bulk or large item exceeding the capacity of the LRS refuse (garbage) cart, includes the following: bed frame, box spring (bed), bicycle, chair, love seat/sofa, one part of sectional couch, mattress, frame, or wall picture. These are only some examples as there are many items that may be considered bulk items.
For health and safety reasons, mattresses must be wrapped in plastic to be collected. Plastic mattress wrap can be found online or at local grocery stores, hardware stores, storage and moving outlets. If using loose plastic, it must be completely taped and secured on all corners with no exposure to the mattress.
Bulk items requiring special equipment and additional labor, such as a piano, sleeper sofa (couch with pull out bed) and large entertainment center are considered a Special Refuse Collection.
Call LRS if you are unsure if an item requires additional labor or equipment at 844.633.3577 or send a request with a photo of the item(s) by e-mail to Service@LRSrecycles.com.
Electronic waste (E-Waste) are items that are banned from the landfill (cannot go in your normal trash).
LRS will provide curbside collection for electronic waste with prepayment and prescheduling to LRS.
LRS also encourages residents to utilize the free drop-off locations near you. Please visit the attached links to learn more about secure drop-off locations for your items. 2022 Green Guide | Mchenry County Recycling Directory
