Yard waste collection takes place on a seasonal basis, starting April 1st, and ending on November 30th  on the same day as refuse and recycling.

What is considered yard waste?

Yard-waste, also known as landscape waste, consists of organic waste materials accumulated as the result of cultivation and maintenance of gardens, lawns, shrubbery, trees and vines.

Villa Park Yard Waste Sticker

The Villa Park yard waste sticker is yellow and used for non-LRS personal owned containers, bags or bundles with yard waste. Each bag, bundle, pile or container of yard waste requires one yellow sticker to service. No stickers will be required for bundles of branches and or twigs.

Refuse Sticker Rate: $3.00 each

Stickers may be purchased at:

  • Village Hall – 20 Ardmore Ave
  • Villa Park Ace – 46 S Villa Ave
  • Jewel-Osco – 33 E St Charles Rd
  • Lombard Ace Hardware – 837 West more-Meyers Rd
  • 7-Eleven – 610 N Addison Rd
  • 7-Eleven – 54 S Villa Ave
  • 7-Eleven – 340 W St Charles Rd
  • Johnson’s Lighthouse Marathon – 1 W St Charles Rd

Guidelines

  • Metal/plastic containers MARKED YW or YARD WASTE with 2 handles not exceeding 50 LBS/ 35 gallons
  • Biodegradable paper landscape & yard waste bags, not to exceed 50 LBS or 35-gallon capacity
  • Securely tied bundles with biodegradable string or twine – bundles not exceeding 4 feet in length, 50lbs
  • Unbundled brush will not be collected

Free Leaf Program

The Village of Villa Park will offer a free leaf collection service for 7 weeks of the year. Through these dates, residents may dispose of an unlimited number of yard waste paper bags of leaves without the need for waste disposal stickers. Please contact customer service for the most up to date collection dates.

If leaves are not placed in yard waste paper bags, they will require a sticker.

Brush must be tied in bundles, no longer than four feet and no larger than 18 inches in diameter. No limbs over four inches in diameter will be accepted. Yard waste stickers are not required for the disposal of brush bundles.

Leaves will be collected at the time of your regular garbage pickup.

Christmas Trees

In January, we will begin to gladly collect your non-artificial Christmas trees as organic material – free of any tinsel, ornaments or lights. Trees can be left loose (never in bags) in the area where you have regular service for trash and recycling. Due to snow and ice, trees may not always be picked up on your service day as our drivers and trucks will be in the village all month for pickups.

Bulk items (that do not fit into your refuse cart) are collected loose, on your regular day of service. If an item exceeds 50lbs, residents may need to call LRS to schedule a special pickup. If a “bulk” item is considered hazardous, unacceptable for landfills or deemed unacceptable to take as garbage, the item(s) will not be taken.  Items should be placed where you normally receive collection service.

Mattresses and box/bed springs are required to be in a plastic mattress cover and taped securely shut. Plastic mattress covers may be purchased at retail outlets such as Walmart, Lowes, Menards, Home Depot and storage unit facilities. Packaging wrap or trash bags cut up and taped around to cover a mattress or box spring are also acceptable options.

Please call LRS to see if such items can be scheduled for a special pickup.

Electronic waste (E-Waste) are items that are banned from the landfill (cannot go in your normal trash). How do I clean my cart?

Fill the cart with hot water and a capful of vinegar or grease-cutting dish soap. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and rinse. Once the cart has been thoroughly rinsed, set the cart out with the lid open in the sun to dry.

What if I need my cart replaced?

Carts that are broken due to damage incurred during the collection are reported by the driver for replacement at no charge. Residents are encouraged to contact LRS if they notice damage to the cart during the collection process to request a replacement cart.

If damage occurs to the cart due to other reasons, please contact LRS to request a replacement cart.

Is this considered garbage?

Latex paint

Latex paint is considered regular garbage, but it must be completely dried, with the lid off so the driver is able to see inside the can. Dry latex paint by leaving lid off or open and/or mix kitty litter until the paint is completely absorbed. Do not place out for collection until the paint is completely dry.

Alkaline batteries

Alkaline batteries are considered regular garbage and should be thrown into the garbage. It is always recommended that tape be used on each end of the battery and placed into a plastic sandwich bag when disposing of them.

How do I report a missed pickup?

If your waste, recycling, or yard waste services are not collected on the service day by 6 pm, please contact LRS by either calling 844.633.3577 or e-mailing service@lrsrecycles.com

Please include your address and what service was missed.
