Summer Transportation Safety

More people are spending time outdoors as the warm weather continues through summer. Whether you are walking, riding bikes or using electric scooters, your actions matter to protect yourself and others around you. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it is also important to always follow the three W’s (wear a face mask, watch your distance and wash your hands) before, after and/or during your commutes. Utilize the tips below to stay safe outdoors this summer when spending time outdoors.

Safety Tips for Summer Transportation Options

  • Walking
    • Maintain at least six feet apart from others around you
    • Be aware of your surroundings
    • Wear a face mask when social distancing is difficult
    • Avoid walking in crowded areas
  • Bike Riding
    • Ride in a bike lane whenever possible
    • Never assume others see you
    • Ride during the day whenever possible
    • Wear a helmet
  • Electric Scooters
    • Ride in a bike lane whenever possible
    • Wear a helmet
    • Never ride while under the influence
    • Familiarize yourself with the scooter and conduct pre-ride safety checks
