Village of Deerfield

Village of Deerfield

Village of Deerfield Waste, Recycling & Yard Waste Collection Program

Beginning on April 1, 2021, LRS will be the new residential waste, recycling and organics hauler for the Village of Deerfield.  We could not be more eager and excited to provide Deerfield residents with Chicagoland’s best and most reliable hauling services.

We know that Deerfield residents have high standards when it comes to their weekly waste and recycling service.  Our drivers, customer service and dispatchers are excited to get started.

Residents will notice expanded curbside collection services starting on April 1, with the introduction of one of Chicagoland’s first 12-month food waste and organics programs.  Each resident will receive one 35-gallon food waste/organics cart to complement the waste and recycling carts they will receive. This will make Deerfield one of the area’s most proactive communities when it comes to reducing the large amounts of food waste that end up in landfills, and the greenhouse gases that material produces.

Cart Service

Each single-family home will receive a cart for waste, recycling and food waste (organics).  If you didn’t sign up for a particular size or waste and/or recycling cart, you will receive a 95-gallon cart for each service.  If you find this cart size to be too big, you may exchange the cart (35-gallon and 65-gallon sizes are available for each service) starting later in the month of April.  All food waste carts will be 35-gallons.

Your service day may have changed from its current day.  Please see the inset map to determine whether or not you have a new service day.  As has been the case in the past, your waste and recycling will be collected on the same day, as is the case for your new food waste service (separate trucks, of course).  We strongly advise that your carts are out for service between 7PM the night before service, and 6AM the day of service.  Collection will start no earlier than 7AM, and end by 5PM each service day.

Waste Collection

Residents will be allowed to put out one ‘bulk’ item for collection each week.  Those items must be 50lbs or less, and allowable in Illinois landfills.  For larger or heavier items, please call LRS at 844-NEED-LRS, or email us at Service@LRSrecycles.com to schedule service. LRS is accepting additional loose bags of trash for residents without the need for stickers.

Mattresses that are put or for collection will need to be wrapped in plastic.  This step will help keep our drivers safe from harmful residues or bed bugs.

Recycling Collection

Recycling Collection

Deerfield residents are allowed to put out as much single-stream recyclable material for collection as they would like.  Unlike your waste service, additional items that do not fit in your recycling container will not require stickers to be collected.  (A list of the most current single-stream definitions will be on each cart.)

Recycle Tips

  • Recyclable plastic items are #1 – #7 except #6.
  • Recycling materials should be loose and not bagged. If you must use a bag, it needs to be transparent. Black bags will be considered contaminated.
  • Containers that have previously stored liquid or food should be emptied. Food and liquid containers do not have to be rinsed unless it was previously filled with a heavy substance. Examples of heavy substance products include tomato paste, peanut butter and vegetable oil.
  • Lids and caps from plastic bottles and glass jars is preferred to remain intact prior to recycling.
  • To limit the amount of space used, break down any cardboard boxes into pieces.
  • The following items are NOT recyclable although they are made from paper, plastic and cardboard:
  • Pizza boxes
  • Styrofoam
  • Paper plates
  • Plastic cups (i.e. Solo cups)
  • Paper towels
  • Plastic grocery bags
Yard Waste Collection

Residents will be able to set out unlimited amounts of stickered brown kraft bags filled with grass clippings.  Bundled twigs, branches and sticks will also be taken as long as they do not exceed 4’ in length and 18” in diameter.  Stickers may be purchased at the same retailers where they are currently purchased..

Food Waste Collection

Food Waste Collection

The Village of Deerfield and LRS are extremely pleased to offer Deerfield residents the ability to put out food waste for collection each week.  Food waste accounts for nearly 20% of all material that ends up in landfills.

Through this new program, Deerfield residents will be able to do their part to offset this amount of material, which will help lessen greenhouse gas effects.
