Yard Waste Collection

Season & Approved Yard Waste Containers or Bags

Yard waste will be collected on your regular service day beginning April 1st through the end of November, every year. Yard waste must be placed in approved biodegradable landscape waste bags or open garbage cans not larger than 32 gallon capacity marked with “YW” or “X.”

Brush must be bundled, cut into four foot lengths and each bundle may not exceed 50 pounds.  Bundle ties must be biodegradable twine or string.

What is Considered Yard Waste?

Yard-waste, also known as landscape waste, consists of organic waste materials accumulated as the result of cultivation and maintenance of gardens, lawns, shrubbery, trees and vines.

Yard waste is garden trimmings, branches and brush under two inches (2”) in diameter, leaves, flowers, tree droppings (crabapples and pinecones), garden plants, vines, weeds and grass clippings and yard trimmings.

Electronic waste home collection program

DCRS now provides Home Collection of electronic waste (E-Waste) for Village of Montgomery households that have DCRS waste and recycling collection.  This service has replaced the quarterly events held in the past.  This service provides a more convenient and simple way to properly manage electronics that are banned from the landfill.  We will collect up to 7 (seven) E-Waste items on the specified collection day upon request.

Electronic Waste Home Collection Schedule

This service takes place on the second (2nd) full week of the first month of each quarter.  Requests must be submitted 5 weekdays prior to the start of the collection week. Please see request cutoff dates and time shown below. Items must be placed out on your regular collection day by 6AM.  Click here to submit a request.

2021 e-waste Collection

January 4January 11-15
April 5  April 12-16
July 5July 12-16
October 4October 11-15
Requests are not received on weekends, holidays or after 5 pm on friday.

Does Every Electronic Require a Special Collection?

No. There are very specific electronics that are banned from the landfill because they have certain elements that are either harmful to the environment or should be recycled. The following items are the only electronic items requiring special collection:

Setting out E-Waste for Pick-Up

Smaller E-Waste items may be placed at the curb in a brown paper bag, a 24” x 24” x 24” or smaller cardboard box.  Please mark the box as E-WASTE so the drivers can easily see it from the truck cab.  Place E-Waste separate from the refuse (garbage), recycle and yard waste containers in a noticeable location so they are easily identifiable for the driver.

Household hazardous waste home collection program

Montgomery residents have a convenient method to dispose of HHW. This HHW Home Collection service is separate from regular collection and is provided by a hazardous waste service provider.

Is There a Charge for This Service?

There is no additional charge for this service and it is solely for Village of Montgomery households that currently have DCRS waste and recycling services. This service is provided through the DCRS collection service but by a hazardous waste service provider. There will be four collections per year, however, in 2020 there will only be three collections. Please continue reading for more information on this new convenient service!
