Chief Executive Officer
Alan T. Handley is a transformational Waste and Environmental Services industry leader and President and Chief Executive Officer of Rosemont, Ill.-based LRS, since the company’s founding in 2013. Under Alan’s leadership, LRS has experienced exponential growth, disrupting the Waste industry status quo through a sustainability-focused circular operating model designed to generate more revenue by diverting and repurposing more material from the waste stream. Today, LRS ranks among the nation’s largest independent waste, recycling and portable services providers in North America.
Alan has scaled LRS revenue from $60 million and 220 employees in 2013, to more than $600 million and 2,100 employees in 2022. In 2021, LRS successfully executed 22 acquisitions. Alan sets the pace and passion at LRS, introducing new technologies and innovations in waste and recycling, including in 2018, when LRS was the first in the nation to deploy the Machinex SamurAITM robotic sorting machine. LRS today operates 65 facilities across nine states: Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, Tennessee, Arkansas and Kansas, bringing needed competition to waste, recycling and portable services markets.
Prior to LRS, Alan served as Executive Vice President and CFO at Aldridge Electric, a leading electrical contractor focused on complex critical infrastructure projects. Other leadership positions included Managing Director at KPMG, Heller Financial, Price Waterhouse, and the United States Marine Corps.
Alan holds an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, where he later served as an adjunct professor, and a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from Northern Illinois University (NIU). Chief Operating Officer
John’s impressive 25-year background in the waste industry makes him a valuable asset to LRS and, more importantly, its valued customers. After joining LRS in 2014 with previous tenure at one of LRS’ largest competitors, John quickly became the driving force behind LRS’ revenue growth. His extensive production and operational industry knowledge resulted in a newly developed operations strategy and created a successful business model to create efficiencies across the company, including route optimization and general operations.
Passionate about ensuring LRS’ operational expertise is above industry standards, John implemented a truck automation initiative. Since 2015, 90% of LRS’ residential fleet has been automated. Automating LRS’ residential fleet ensures that LRS drivers remain safe and healthy, reducing overall physical labor during routes. Knowing that LRS drivers are part of the life-force of the company, John set up new methods to ease driver responsibility. One initiative included providing driver tablets for all commercial routes, which decreased program paper usage by 50%.
John was recognized as the 2016 Bronze Stevie Award winner for Executive of the Year by American Business Awards for his numerous contributions to LRS’ growth. John holds a Bachelor’s degree from University of St. Francis.
