Local crews bring recyclable and waste materials collected from homes, businesses and construction projects, and each load of material is weighed.

From there, crews are directed to a designated area to empty the materials.

Equipment is used to bulk load materials into a large semi-truck known as a transfer trailer.

Materials brought into the transfer station are transported out each day to their final disposal destination or to be baled and recycled.

The LRS Solution

Our plans include a state-of-the-art facility, leveraging new technology and innovation, to provide DuPage County residents, businesses and municipalities essential services at competitive rates. LRS has worked diligently with renowned environmental engineering firms and local governmental bodies to ensure this facility is an environmental benefit to West Chicago and DuPage County and will reduce carbon emissions.

Doors to the building will stay closed until a truck pulls up. The door will open to allow the truck inside and then close behind the truck, once safely inside. While the truck is unloading, the doors will remain closed allowing the air ventilation system to capture and eliminate potential odors. The doors remain closed throughout the day and will only open for trucks entering and leaving.

Changes in the waste industry

DuPage County is the second largest county in Illinois and home to nearly one million people, thousands of small businesses and many major companies. Despite population growth in the area, the number of recycling and waste disposal and transfer facilities has been decreasing for years.
In 2021, DuPage County generated approximately 1.5 million tons of waste materials, most of which needs to be hauled out of the county due to lack of transfer stations. This means hundreds of diesel fueled trucks are driving excessive miles each day resulting in a negative impact to the environment. Based on available public information, it’s estimated that local companies, like LRS are often forced to drive over 30 miles just to empty their trucks prior to returning to their route.
