Residential Services

City of Geneva

LRS began serving as the city’s official residential hauler for waste, recycling and organics on July 1, 2018. We are excited to continue providing Geneva residents with the Midwest’s best and most reliable hauling services.

FYI, the existing blue refuse stickers with an expiration date of June 30, 2023 will be valid through the month of July 2023 as part of the new contract

Weekly Pickups

Garbage is collected on Thursday or Friday of each week depending on the location of the residence. Refuse and recycling carts should be placed at the curb between 7 p.m. the previous night and 6 a.m. the day of collection.

Residents can dispose of their trash with a “pay as you throw” user base model using waste stickers or subscribe to an LRS garbage cart that carries a monthly charge.

New to Geneva? Start your garbage service by contacting LRS’ customer experience center.

Please note, the City’s garbage contract does not apply to residents of the Mill Creek subdivision, which is unincorporated. Please call Kane County regarding garbage questions.

Stickers

Residents choosing the “pay as you throw” option must place one waste sticker on each bag or trash can. Please note, cans must be limited to 32 gallons or 50 pounds. Items over 50 pounds may need to be scheduled for removal.

Stickers placed on trash cans must be visible from the street and looped around the handles for the LRS driver to easily rip off. Customers risk not having their garbage picked up if they affix stickers flatly onto a garbage can or lid.

Sticker prices and retail locations are available online. Residents also can purchase the stickers in sheets online via the City’s website.

Yard waste and bulk items also require waste stickers.

FYI, the existing blue refuse stickers with an expiration date of June 30, 2023 will be valid through the month of July 2023 as part of the new contract.

LRS Garbage Carts

Residents can choose to dispose of their trash with a garbage cart issued from LRS. Carts come in 35, 65 or 95-gallon sizes, all of which carry a monthly subscription charge. No refuse stickers are necessary when utilizing the carts.

20-Gallon Waste Bags

Residents also have the option of purchasing 20-gallon waste bags that are sold in rolls of 10 at select locations. See garbage rates for price details.

Non-LRS Resident Owned Containers

Garbage, receptacles, containers, boxes, plastic bags and individual item guide:

  • Non-LRS containers must have two handles or a grip
  • Garbage must be contained and fit inside the container when full
  • Non-LRS containers may not exceed 33-gallons
  • Loose garbage bags may not exceed 33-gallons, and must be securely tied
  • Bags and containers may not exceed 50lbs when full
  • Service includes one (1) 35, 65 or 95 gallon cart with wheels and a flip-top lid.
  • LRS provides each home with unlimited collection of recyclables (so long as they are properly contained).
  • Contact Customer Service by calling 844.633.3577 to request a different size cart or rent an additional cart.
  • Recyclables are collected on the same day as garbage and yard waste (in season).
  • Use the LRS cart for recyclable materials.
  • For any extra recyclables placed out for collection, mark as RECYCLE so the driver can clearly see it.
  • Plastic bags and film will NOT be collected in the recycle cart.

Yard waste will be picked up on people’s scheduled garbage collection day beginning in April through Nov. 30. Yard waste should be placed in a Kraft brown paper bag, which may not weigh more than 50 pounds, and set out with the trash. A waste sticker will need to be affixed to each bag.

During the third and fourth full weeks in March, residents can dispose of yard waste for free. No stickers are required. While LRS strongly prefers the use of yard waste bags, residents who pay for a designated LRS yard waste cart also can use that cart during the free collection period.

Both the City’s yard waste and curbside leaf collection programs wrap up at the end of November. However, residents with leaves on the ground can take advantage of the leaf bag program during December.

Yard Waste Carts

LRS also does offer an optional 65-gallon yard waste cart to residents for a monthly fee. Call the company’s customer service number to have a cart delivered to your home.

Geneva residents are also able to combine food scraps with their yard waste from April through November. Food scraps cannot be combined with yard waste during the free collection in March. Learn more about how LRS’ food scrap program.

Residents must place the trees outside with their trash no later than 7 a.m. on their scheduled refuse pickup day. To ensure the timeliness and integrity of the schedule, LRS crews will not return for special pickups. Once a street has been completed, trees will not be collected until the following week. *Garbage pickup delayed one day later than normal the week of Jan. 2 due to New Year’s Day holiday. White Goods

“White Goods” are appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, humidifiers, etc. that are containing CFC, HCFC, PCBs, mercury switches, or other hazardous components. These items will require one sticker per item. White goods will usually be collected separately by a box truck at the end of the day.

Mattresses

Residents must wrap or enclose an old mattress in plastic and set it out at the curb on their normal garbage day. An unwrapped mattress will not be collected by LRS. One refuse sticker will be required per item for disposal.

How do I clean my cart?

Fill the cart with hot water and a capful of vinegar or grease-cutting dish soap. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and rinse. Once the cart has been thoroughly rinsed, set the cart out with the lid open in the sun to dry.

What if I need my cart replaced?

Carts that are broken due to damage incurred during the collection are reported by the driver for replacement at no charge. Residents are encouraged to contact LRS if they notice damage to the cart during the collection process to request a replacement cart.

If damage occurs to the cart due to other reasons, please contact LRS to request a replacement cart.

Is this considered garbage?

Latex paint

Latex paint is considered regular garbage, but it must be completely dried, with the lid off so the driver is able to see inside the can. Dry latex paint by leaving lid off or open and/or mix kitty litter until the paint is completely absorbed. Do not place out for collection until the paint is completely dry.

Alkaline batteries

Alkaline batteries are considered regular garbage and should be thrown into the garbage. It is always recommended that tape be used on each end of the battery and placed into a plastic sandwich bag when disposing of them.

How do I report a missed pickup?

If your waste, recycling, or landscape waste is not collected on the service day by 6 pm, please contact LRS by calling 844.633.3577 or e-mailing Service@LRSrecycles.com.
