Residential Services
Village of Montgomery
Village of Montgomery residents receive weekly service for garbage, recyclables and seasonal yard waste. All materials must be placed curbside by 6AM on the service day to ensure collection.
LRS also provides Home Collection Service for Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Electronic Waste (E-Waste). These are two separate collections and requests are required for these special collections. There are no additional charges for these services. Please see Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste section below for more detail on each.
New Residents
Montgomery residents will receive service automatically when establishing water service with the Village. LRS garbage and recycle carts are provided for every household. New homeowners without LRS carts should contact our customer service to arrange delivery of carts. Single family homes and townhomes with individual driveways will receive a 95 gallon cart for garbage and a 65 gallon cart for recycling. Carts are wheels with a flip top lid. Other size options are available upon request. There are no charges for the carts or the initial delivery of carts.
If you already have our garbage and recycle cart, you may begin using them immediately.
Cart Maintenance
Cleaning the Cart
Fill the cart with hot water and a capful of vinegar or grease cutting dish soap. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and rinse. Once the cart has been thoroughly rinsed, set the cart out with the lid open in the sun to dry.
Cart Replacement
Carts that are broken due to damage incurred during the collection are reported by the driver for replacement at no charge. Residents are encouraged to contact customer service if they notice damage to the cart during the collection process to request a replacement cart.
If damages occur to the cart due to other reasons, please contact LRS to request a replacement cart. Exchange fees may apply if requesting a new cart due to damage not incurred during the collection process or odors.

Garbage Collection
Garbage is collected once per week. There is no limit to the amount of regular household garbage that can be placed out for collection on a weekly basis so long as it is properly prepared or placed out in accordance with the requirements for collection.
If you have extra garbage that doesn’t fit into the LRS cart, you may use your own container, so long as it does not exceed 35 gallons, 50 pounds when full and has two handles. We recommend using a container and not placing loose garbage bags to the curb for health and safety reasons.
We will collect one (1) bulk item per week, along with your regular garbage. Bulk items are small furniture items or toys that do not fit in the cart. Examples of bulk items include a chair, love seat, couch or section of a couch, small desk, table or children’s bicycle. Excessively heavy items like a piano, are not considered a bulk or large item and require a special collection.
Carpet will be accepted as a bulk item. LRS will remove up to 8 rolls of cut, tied and bundled carpeting as one bulk item. Carpeting bundles may not exceed 4’ (feet) long and 18” (inches) in diameter or width. If you have more that you’d like to dispose of and would prefer to pay for the additional to have it removed, please call a day in advance to schedule.
We will collect one (1) appliance per week at no charge. This includes a washer, dryer, dishwasher, air conditioner, stove, oven, refrigerator or freezer.
Additional appliances will be collected for a prepaid fee. Please call our office at least 24 hours in advance, on a weekday, to schedule collection of more than one appliance.
If you’re not sure about an appliance or bulk item, feel free to call our customer service.
LRS provides special pick-ups or special collections for large amounts of garbage from a move-out or a flooded basement or large clean outs as well as very heavy items. Please contact customer service to schedule a special pick-up estimate or learn more about other options available in your area.
Non-hazardous or non-chemical containing liquids should be emptied or solidified in containers prior to placing in the garbage. Latex paint needs to be completely dried with the lid off in order to be collected. Kitty litter or sawdust may be mixed in with the unwanted latex paint to expedite drying process for proper disposal.
LRS will provide a special collection of Christmas trees for month of January.
Flocked trees, trees with shiners, tinsel, light bulbs, glitter, wire or plastic or in plastic bags shall not be included in this special collection and are considered a large item. Lightbulbs should be completely removed from live trees and artificial trees.

There is no limit to the amount of acceptable recyclables that can be placed out for collection so long as it’s properly prepared and placed inside the cart or approved container. There is no need to separate recycle materials before placing them into the recycle cart. Cardboard boxes must be flattened. Please cut them down so they don’t exceed 4’ dimensions so the driver can fit them into the automated bucket lift.
Personal Recycling Container
If you have extra recycling that doesn’t fit into the LRS cart, you may use your own container, so long as it does not exceed 35 gallons, 50 pounds when full and has two handles. We recommend using a container and not placing loose garbage bags to the curb for health and safety reasons.
