These are two separate collections and requests are required for these special collections. There are no additional charges for these services. Please see Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste sections for more detail on each.

New Residents

Montgomery residents will receive service automatically when establishing water service with the Village. DC garbage and recycle carts are provided for every household. New homeowners without DC carts should contact our customer service to arrange delivery of carts. Single family homes and townhomes with individual driveways will receive a 95 gallon cart for garbage and a 65 gallon cart for recycling. Carts are wheels with a flip top lid. Other size options are available upon request. There are no charges for the carts or the initial delivery of carts.

If you already have our garbage and recycle cart, you may begin using them immediately.

Cart Maintenance

Cleaning the Cart

Fill the cart with hot water and a capful of vinegar or grease cutting dish soap. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and rinse. Once the cart has been thoroughly rinsed, set the cart out with the lid open in the sun to dry.

Cart Replacement

Carts that are broken due to damage incurred during the collection are reported by the driver for replacement at no charge. Residents are encouraged to contact customer service if they notice damage to the cart during the collection process to request a replacement cart.

If damages occur to the cart due to other reasons, please contact DCRS to request a replacement cart. Exchange fees may apply if requesting a new cart due to damage not incurred during the collection process or odors.

Season and Approved Yard Waste Containers or Bags

Yard waste will be collected on your regular service day beginning April 1st through the end of November, every year. Yard waste must be placed in approved biodegradable landscape waste bags or open garbage cans not larger than 32 gallon capacity marked with “YW” or “X.”

Brush must be bundled, cut into four foot lengths and each bundle may not exceed 50 pounds.  Bundle ties must be biodegradable twine or string.

What is Considered Yard Waste?

Yard-waste, also known as landscape waste, consists of organic waste materials accumulated as the result of cultivation and maintenance of gardens, lawns, shrubbery, trees and vines.

Yard waste is garden trimmings, branches and brush under two inches (2”) in diameter, leaves, flowers, tree droppings (crabapples and pinecones), garden plants, vines, weeds and grass clippings and yard trimmings.

ELECTRONIC WASTE HOME COLLECTION PROGRAM

DCRS now provides Home Collection of electronic waste (E-Waste) for Village of Montgomery households that have DCRS waste and recycling collection.  This service has replaced the quarterly events held in the past.  This service provides a more convenient and simple way to properly manage electronics that are banned from the landfill.  We will collect up to 7 (seven) E-Waste items on the specified collection day upon request.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE HOME COLLECTION PROGRAM

In January of 2020, DCRS and the Village of Montgomery will have held the final EVENT collection for electronics and household hazardous waste (HHW). Beginning in the spring of 2020, Montgomery residents will have a new and convenient method to dispose of HHW. This HHW Home Collection service is separate from regular collection and is provided by a hazardous waste service provider.

Is there a charge for this service?

There is no additional charge for this service and it is solely for Village of Montgomery households that currently have DCRS waste and recycling services. This service is provided through the DCRS collection service but by a hazardous waste service provider. There will be four collections per year, however, in 2020 there will only be three collections. Please continue reading for more information on this new convenient service!
